What SCleaner changes — and what it never touches

Which locations are protected and how removals work.

Applies to: macOSWindows

SCleaner is designed so you always know what will happen before it happens.

Never touched

  • Mac: /System, /Library, /Applications, ~/Library (except known cache locations in Junk & caches), hidden files, app bundles, symbolic links and software project folders.
  • Windows: C:\Windows, Program Files, ProgramData, the Recycle Bin folder, System Volume Information and AppData (except a fixed list of caches). Symbolic links and junctions are not followed.

How changes happen

  • Every change is listed in a confirmation dialog first.
  • Each file is re-checked right before it changes. If it was modified since the analysis, it is skipped.
  • Removed files go to the Trash (Mac) or Recycle Bin (Windows). SCleaner never deletes files permanently.
