Cleaning up your mailbox

Connect a mailbox, review categories and move mail to Trash.

Applies to: macOSWindows

Clean Up Mail connects to your mailbox over IMAP with an encrypted connection.

Connecting

  • Gmail: create an App Password in your Google account (2-Step Verification must be on) and use it instead of your normal password.
  • iCloud: create an app-specific password at appleid.apple.com.
  • Outlook.com / Hotmail: not supported yet, because Microsoft requires a browser sign-in that is not implemented.

Cleaning up

  1. Choose the folders to scan. Trash, Junk, Sent and Drafts are never scanned.
  2. Browse by category (newsletters, social, receipts, notifications, people), by sender, or by large and old messages.
  3. Select what to remove. Use Always Keep to protect a sender.
  4. Click Move to Trash. Messages go to your mailbox’s Trash and can be restored there.

Starred messages are never touched.
